— Notice of Relocation —
Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts
Thank you very much for your continued support and understanding of the activities of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (K*MoPA).
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, we held a commemorative ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of the museum’s opening, welcoming approximately 160 guests. The ceremony began with an address by the photographer Masato Seto, the current director who succeeded the late founding director Eikoh Hosoe. Photos and details of the event can be found on our website: https://www.kmopa.com/category/news/
We were honored to welcome guests from Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Poland, and received many video messages from various countries. At the end of the ceremony, our Executive Committee Member Seiji Nishikawa announced the museum’s relocation plans as below.
[Announcements on September 6, 2025]
•The museum will be relocated to the shores of Lake Kawaguchi in Yamanashi Prefecture, with the opening scheduled a few years from now.
•The current facility (museum) in Kiyosato will not be demolished and will continue to be utilized.
•The “Young Portfolio” (YP) open call, which supports photographers aged 35 and under, will continue during the relocation period, with exhibitions planned at alternative venues. Details of the call for entries will be announced on our website in November 2025.
•Exhibitions at the current Kiyosato location will conclude at 5:00 PM on Monday, October 13, 2025 (a national holiday in Japan).
Thanks to the visionary leadership of our founding director Eikoh Hosoe, the beautiful space designed by architect Akira Kuryu, and the museum’s location surrounded by forest, we have been able to continue our activities for 30 years. This would not have been possible without the support of photographers from all over the world. We are deeply grateful to all those involved in our exhibitions, traveling shows, educational programs, events, and workshops, as well as to our loyal visitors, the local community of Hokuto City, and the Shinnyo-en, which has supported us for many years through the Social Contribution Fund.
Further details will be announced on our website as they become available.
We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and support.
