第31回ヤング・ポートフォリオ（YP）の作品データ募集期間も3月10日までとなり、応募準備の真っ最中という方もおられるのではないでしょうか？
第31回目となる本年は、4名の選考委員のうち3名が、YPで購入実績のある“YPOB”です。すでにYPを卒業した立場から応募者に向けて寄せていただいたコメントをご紹介します。

ラファル・ミラフ
１）私は美術アカデミーの学生だった頃、私の作品がKMoPAに初めて購入されました。写真家としての活動を始めたのはその2年前で、機関に作品を購入されたのも初めてのことでした。そのため、エマージング・フォトグラファーにとって非常に興奮する瞬間でした。
２）私の作品が美術館のコレクションの一部となったことを知った時、写真制作への自信がさらに深まりました。まだ初心者でしたが、いつかプロのフォトグラファーになれるかもしれないと考えるようになりました。また、Young Portfolioは学生時代の予算にとって良い財政的な支援となりました。
３）写真家としての私の人生において、それは挑戦的でありながらも刺激的な時期でした。写真の道を選んだのが比較的遅かったため、追いつくために必死で働かなければならないと感じていましたし、そうしました。しかし、これは写真家としての道のりの始まりに過ぎないという感覚があり、長い間私の中に残りました。それは両刃の剣のようなもので、間違いを犯したり実験したりする余裕がある分、刺激的ですが、同時に常に迷い不安を感じ続けるのです。これらの複雑な感情が、私を動かし続ける原動力となりました。
百瀬俊哉
１）自分の目に映る世界が、誰かの心にも届いたことに深く感動、感謝しました。写真で人とつながる実感を得た、忘れられない瞬間でした。
２）写真家として歩き出すきっかけをくれた大きな節目でした。美術館が真剣に若い表現に向き合ってくれる、その姿勢に背中を押されました。
３）迷い、模索しながらも、自分の表現を信じ続けるしかない時間でした。技術も知識も発展途上で、作品づくりのたびに自分の限界を感じていました。
古賀絵里子
１）無名の私の作品に目をつけ購入してくださったことは、作家活動を陰から応援してもらえているようで太い心の支えになりました。また、その恩に報いるためにも、作家活動を続けようと強く心に決めたことを今も覚えています。
２）作品ができたらヤング・ポートフォリオに応募するというサイクルにいたおかげで、精神的にも経済的にも作家活動を続ける大きな励みになりました。若い作家たちの背中を押す、非常に素晴らしい活動だと思います。
３）二度と戻れない若い時代。お金がなくても情熱に燃えてた時代。どんな事があっても、写真だけは手放さなかったヤング・ポートフォリオの時代は、傷つきながらも栄誉を掴みに行く挑戦の時間でした。

The submission period for the 31st Young Portfolio (YP) is closing on March 10th.
We imagine some of you are in the midst of preparing your entries!
For this 31st edition, three of the four selection committee members are “YPOB”—artists whose work has been purchased through YP.
We’d like to share comments they’ve shared with applicants from their perspective as YP alumni.
Three Questions and Answers for the Three YPOB Selection Committee Members
1) What did you feel when you purchased your first work on YP?
2) What did Young Portfolio mean to you?
3) Looking back on the time leading up to the age limit of 35 for applying to YP, what kind of time was it?
Rafal Milach
1) I was a student of the Academy of Fine Arts when my work was acquired by KMoPA for the first time. I started my adventure with photography barely 2 years before that and it was also the first time my work was purchased by an institution. So it was all very exciting moment for an emerging photographer.
2) When I realized that my works have become part of institutional collection I gained more confidence in my photography practice. I was still a beginner but started to think that maybe one day I can become a professional photographer. Apart from that Young Portfolio was a good financial booster for my student budget.
3) It was a challenging yet exciting time in my life as a photographer. Because I chose photography relatively late, I felt like I had to catch up and work like crazy. I did, but the feeling that I was only at the beginning of my photographic journey stayed with me for a long time. It’s like a double-edged sword. It’s exciting because you can afford to make mistakes and experiment, but at the same time, you constantly feel lost and uncertain. These mixed feelings motivated me to keep working.
MOMOSE Toshiya
1) I was deeply moved and grateful that the world as seen through my eyes had touched someone else’s heart. It was an unforgettable moment where I truly felt connected to people through photography.
2) It was a major turning point that gave me the push to start walking as a photographer. The museum’s earnest commitment to engaging with young expression gave me the confidence to move forward.
3) It was a time when I could only keep believing in my own expression, even while feeling lost and searching. My skills and knowledge were still developing, and with each piece I created, I felt my own limitations.
KOGA Eriko
1) The fact that someone had an eye on and purchased my unknown work felt like receiving quiet support for my creative endeavors, becoming a profound source of strength. I still remember how strongly I resolved to continue my career, determined to repay that kindness.
2) Being part of that cycle—creating work and then submitting it to Young Portfolio—provided tremendous encouragement to continue my artistic practice, both mentally and financially. I think it’s an absolutely wonderful initiative that gives young artists a push forward.
3) Those youthful days we can never return to. A time when passion burned bright even without money. No matter what happened, I never let go of photography—the era of the Young Portfolio was a time of challenging myself to seize glory, even while bearing wounds.
